Why Go On a Walking Holiday in Spain?

Spain is one of the most beautiful countries on this planet. It is part of the European Union and it is situated on the Iberian Peninsula in the South Western region of Europe. Spain is a very popular destination for tourists, and the country caters to millions of travellers each year. The capital city, Madrid, is also home to one of the world’s largest football clubs; Real Madrid. Some of the biggest, best players in world football, such as Cristiano Ronaldo, Zinedine Zidane, Raul, Iker Casillas, Roberto Carlos, and Fabio Cannavaro have played at the Santiago Bernabeu, a gorgeous football stadium that serves as the home field for Real Madrid.

Millions of people who visit Spain are football fans and often go to visit the hundreds of different stadiums spread throughout the country. This football-crazed culture holds a lot of value in Spain, and most of the locals are quite enthusiastic and emotional about their favourite clubs. However, Spain is not just popular because of its football culture. Being one of the oldest countries in the world, there are plenty of sights to see and places that you can visit in this beautiful country. Walking holidays in Spain can be incredibly rewarding, especially if you take the time to plan them correctly. Here are just some of the many reasons as to why you should go on a walking holiday in this gorgeous territory.

Walking Paths

Some of the world’s most beautiful walking paths are situated in Spain. For instance, you can go on a hike near Tenerife to check out the Teide volcano as well as the beach resorts in Carnaval. Or, if you are feeling particularly adventurous, why not go on a hike to La Palma? You will see a clear view of several dormant volcanoes that line the horizon and you’ll also get to see the famed Santa Cruz de la Palma port.

There are hundreds of different walking pathways and tracks spread throughout Spain. You can discuss the details of your trip with your travel agency and set a customised itinerary, which may include hikes on these different tracks. Just make sure that you wear a comfortable pair of shoes when you go hiking. Many of these tracks are quite long and they extend for several kilometres! Given the sheer beauty of the surroundings, it’s unlikely that you will want to stop walking anytime soon!

Health Benefits

There’s little doubt that walking is an excellent form of exercise, especially for people who can’t engage in high impact training regimens. Whereas most people often return from their trips with a few extra pounds around their belly, you will be able to lose weight during your journey if you go on a walking trip. Walking for several kilometres on a regular basis could easily reduce your weight to a more healthy level. A walking/hiking excursion will make you feel fitter and better about yourself. Even if you want to try the local delicacies and indulge in Spanish cuisine, it won’t really make much of a difference because you will burn it all away during the next hike. It’s a fantastic option for those who want to watch their weight and keep their fitness levels high.
